extra linefeed and misplaced horizontal ruler when converting html to PDF

Hi,
When playing around with further variants, an additional bug has been discovered:
<html><body>
<hr /><b>a</b>b
</body></html>
and
<html><body>
<hr /><br /><b>a</b>b
</body></html>
still show the extra linefeed, but to make things worse, the horizontal ruler is interpreted as an underline for the bold-"a" line?
Again, adding a "." before the "<b>" corrects this, but I don't want the dot...
Appreciating any suggestions!
