signing a PDF with an eID

Hello,
are there any Belgians on the list?

On the EIDForum that discusses the use of the Belgian Identity Card
(see http://homes.esat.kuleuven.be/~decockd/wiki/bin/view.cgi/Eid/EidForum),
I have seen the following thread:

Is there a free applet/library to create digital signatures on pdf or office documents?

* I'm looking for a piece of code (an applet would be nice, or .exe, ...) to digitally sign documents (pdf, office-files, ...).
Or can I use (some functions in) the eID middleware for that purpose (I guess not)?
And ... it should be freely distributable smile
Thanks in advance ! -- AnonYmous - 19 Aug 2005 10:07:54
* (cont'd) ... please mention the relevant ones that are not for free also. thx. -- AnonYmous - 19 Aug 2005 10:21:41
* Hi, it will not be simple to get a freely distributable piece of software that does what you want: a digital signature is typically embedded in a pdf or office file, and this is a non-trivial task... You could use tools such as Adobe Professional 7.0 (quite expensive) or other solutions to sign pdf documents, but this code will typically be not free to redistribute... -- DannyDeCock - 19 Aug 2005 13:19:11

* yes... itext does it in an easy way. ohly a little know how about itext and java are advisable -- AnonYmous - 19 Dec 2005 11:16:39
* Does anyone care to send me an iText example? -- AnonYmous - 07 Feb 2006 12:40:30
* I am Bruno Lowagie and I have a lot of knowhow about the iText or 'lowagie.com' classes, but no knowhow about the eID (I live in Belgium and I just ordered my eID today). If I study the eID Run-time Users Guide, I don't see a method that can sign me a hash. Maybe it's there, but I don't recognize it. Can somebody send me a code sample? Your code will be made available at http://www.lowagie.com/iText/ and eternal glory will be your part ;-) -- AnonYmous - 08 Feb 2006 12:05:28

I wonder if there's anyone on the iText list who can help me out.
br,
Bruno
